Chen Yiming, born in Shanghai in 1951, studied painting from his boyhood upwards. From 1972 to 1979, he studied in Shanghai Art College and oil painting department of Shanghai Theatrical College successively. Before going to study in America in 1981, he was an art teacher in Shanghai Light Industry College, and then he went to study in New York art students union in United State. From 1991 till now, he has been exclusive painter of New York Hammer Gallery. He has held many exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia, and participated in oil painting auction in many auction houses, such as Christie, Sotheby and Jia-de. His works has been collected by many national or regional museums, corporation, and individuals. Works of Chen Yiming were ever exhibited in International Gallery in New York in 1982, in Lincoln central Gallery in New York in 1982, in Oriental Gallery in New York in 1983, in Connecticut Eagle Gallery in United State in 1989, in Modern Art Center in New England in 1990, in New York Hammer Gallery in 1990 (exhibition of his friend was hold here), in Vancouver Mowat Gallery in Canada in 1993, in International Art Expo in Singapore in 1994, in Mowat Gallery in Canada in 1994, in International Art Expo in Hong Kong in 1994, in Shawnee Gallery in Hong Kong in 1994, and in Hammer Gallery in United State in 1996. He ever hold solo exhibition in Wally Findly Gallery in New York in 1987, in Wally Findly Gallery in Chicago in 1988, in Hammer Gallery in New York in 1990, 1997, 1999, 2001, and 2003, in Wangyutang Gallery in Hong Kong in 1992, in Better Gallery in New Mexico in 1995, and in International Art Expo in Shanghai in 1998. As the famous Chinese painter cooperating with Hammer Gallery for 15 years, Chen Yiming has a unique painting style blending oriental culture and western painting technique, and has been accepted by western and oriental art enthusiasts and collectors.
